Dubrovnik
Airline hat am 23.03.2005 den Flugbetrieb mit einer MD-83 aufgenommen.
Geflogen werden Charterflüge im Auftrag von Reiseunternehmen Europas zu
Kroatiens Feriendestinationen. Gegründet wurde Dubrovnik Airline von Zeno
Singer, einem ehemaligen Angestellten und Piloten von Air Adriatic.
Inzwischen betreibt Dubrovnik Airline fünf MD-80 (zwei MD-83, drei MD-82)
und hat der ebenfalls in Kroatien beheimateten Air Adriatic das Geschäft
streitig gemacht. Bisher genießt Dubrovnik Airline anscheinend einen überaus guten Ruf.

Dubrovnik Airline informiert wie
folgt über die MD-80:
The Dubrovnik Airline fleet
consists of two Boeing MD-83 and three Boeing MD-82 aircraft. These are
mid-range aircraft, with the capacity of 167 passengers. They fulfill all
operational and ecological requirements to fly in Europe, including noise
regulations.
The aircraft
named Revelin, MD-83, the first aircraft in the fleet, started flying on
18th April, 2005, on the
first Dubrovnik Airline flight to Marseilles. She was named after a fortress
outside the Dubrovnik city walls, which was built in the 16th
century, with a purpose of defending the old harbour from the Venetian threat.
The second aircraft in the
fleet, also an MD-83, is named Lovrijenac, after a fortress located
outside the Dubrovnik city walls, dating back to the 11th century.
The legend says that Venetians were planning to build a fortress at that
location, which would help them dominate Dubrovnik. Once they had found out
about the plans, Dubrovnik citizens worked fast and built the fortress at
the exact location, within 3 months, before the Venetians arrived with
construction tools and materials. Today, the fortress is also famous for
world renowned Shakespeare plays which are performed within its walls.
Minčeta,
the third aircraft in our fleet, an MD-82, is named after the tower which is
a part of city walls. Building of a smaller tower at the same location was
finished in 1319 by Nikifor Ranjina, and the large tower had been completed
in 1464, according to designs by famous Renaissance architects, a
Florentine, Michellozzo Michellozzi, and Juraj Dalmatinac. It is one of the
most beautiful buildings and a symbol of Dubrovnik's freedom.
Bokar, our fourth aircraft
(MD-82) is named after the tower Bokar, which was built according to the plans
of Michelozzi, with the purpose of defending the main entry gate, bridge and
ditch at Pile. It has a beautiful stone coronet, and it's rooms and outside
spaces are used for certain performances of Dubrovnik Summer Festival. It is the
oldest tower of this type in Europe.
Our fifth aircraft (MD-82),
Sv. Ivan (St John), is named after a fortress located at the entrance to the
old city port. The firt fortress was built in this place in the first half of
the 14th century, and it got its semi-circular shape in the 16th century. Today,
you can find an aquarium and the Maritime Museum within its walls.
Our airplanes are produced in USA
by Boeing McDonnal Douglas and equiped with 167 seats. They are capable to land
in stronger cross wind then some other airplanes ( Airbus 320), which is
particulary important in Dubrovnik during the "bora" wind.
