AirTran Airways' New 717-200
Aircraft
AirTran Airways' new aircraft
was carefully designed with the passenger in mind at each stage of
development to create the safest, most comfortable and luxurious airplane
for short distances and frequent flights. The 717's new, lean engine, BR715,
by BMW/Rolls Royce, makes this aircraft the quietest and most
environmentally friendly airplane in its class.

Airways’ 717 aircraft was created with the passenger in mind, resulting in
the quietest, most modern and comfortable airplane in the sky today. Showing
a commitment to technology and engineering as well as passenger safety,
AirTran Airways was the launch customer of the 717 in 1998 and remained a
leading customer of the aircraft until the last 717 was delivered by Boeing
on May 23, 2006.
”AirTran Airways saved more
than $3 million in fuel costs alone in its first year of operation,” said
Joe Leonard, AirTran’s chairman and chief executive officer. ”We estimate
our maintenance costs have dropped 45 percent. Now that we have all 717
aircraft in our fleet, we’re not only the youngest fleet in America, but
perhaps the most cost-efficient as well.”
Modern and Luxurious
Interior
The spacious interior of the
717 provides passenger comfort, whether traveling for business or with the
entire family on vacation. The aircraft’s state-of-the-art amenities ensure
passenger comfort, from parents with young children to those passengers with
special needs.

Safety and Environmental
Improvements
The 717’s design combines
personal safety advancements with the environmentally conscious BR715 engine,
created by Rolls-Royce.

Flight Deck Advancements
The 717’s two-crew flight
deck was developed with the most technologically advanced avionics of any
aircraft in its class. Pilots from different airlines met with Boeing
engineers for nearly two years to design a flight deck that would be as
modern tomorrow as it is today.

Raising the bar in the
airline industry, the 717 aircraft has proven itself to be the quietest,
most economical and fuel-efficient twinjet in the sky today. Introduced to
the flying public by AirTran Airways in 1998, the 717 has increased
profitability for the airline and smoothed the way for additional
technological advancements in future aircraft models.
The 717 is ideally suited for
short-range routes with quick airport turnaround times. With a range of more
than 1,500 statute miles, the 717 can fly all day with minimal ground
servicing. Developed using the DC-9’s airframe durability, the 717 aircraft
features structural refinements, environmentally friendly engines, an
updated flight deck with technologically advanced avionics’ systems, a new
interior and enhanced performance.
"AirTran Airways saved more

Joe Leonard, AirTran’s chairman and chief executive officer. "We estimate
our maintenance costs have dropped 45 percent. Now that we have all 717
aircraft in our fleet, we’re not only the youngest fleet in America, but
perhaps the most cost-efficient as well."
